What’s good, LBHS? I hope you guys enjoyed Class Olympics 2025. I know I did! Today you’re in for some real good Class Olympics content from the activities and interviews to the skits that are put on after the school day. Let’s get started!
Friday, February 28th was LBHS’ annual Class Olympics in the school gymnasium. It was held from ninth period to 8:25 at night. Before the activities started, the classes were bursting with excitement! Every year each class comes up with their own theme. The themes for this year were: The Greatest Freshmen, Surfin’ Sophomores, Space Jam Juniors, and Slumber Party Seniors. All of the students from each grade had the chance to purchase their class shirts in the commons to support their class during the event!
During the event, there were multiple activities: swimming, tug of war, musical chairs, hula hoop rock paper scissors, surf table challenge, and skits. Each component gets scored by a panel of judges. This year the judges were: Dr. Newman, Mr. Horne, Mr. Bruno, Mr. Rossi, and Mr. Noss. Each class did exceptionally well in at least one of the categories. The Sophomores swept the swimming events. The Seniors did great with their skit (and got those extra spirit points), and the Freshmen won 5 of the individual events!
After all the activities were held in the gymnasium, every class had a time frame to practice before they debuted their skits! Each skit revolved around the class’s theme. The Freshmen went first with their “The Greatest Freshmen” skit which featured songs from the movie, The Greatest Showman. The Sophomores went next. The “Surfin’ Sophomores” skit was great! It featured songs from the movie Teen Beach Movie. The Juniors’ “Space Jam Juniors” was inspired by the movie Space Jam, featuring songs by artists Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar. Lastly, the Seniors’ performed their “Slumber Party Seniors” skit which featured ‘80s outfits and ‘80s classics.
After the event, I asked the class presidents questions:
What made you join your class and what made you want to do Class Olympics?
How long did it take to come up with your skit?
What inspired some of your characters?
Junior Class President Abby Moehlenhoff responded: “So the thing that made me want to join my class and be a part of Class Olympics was [that] I’ve always heard about the excitement from the event and it is just such an exciting and fun day overall. For our skit, it took us a few weeks to write, and pick out the music. For the characters in our skit, we were most inspired by the actual characters in the movie Space Jam which related to our theme.”
Freshmen Class President Giada Napolitano stated: “I wanted to join my class and Class Olympics because it would allow me to be a leader and get more involved with the school. It took us a few months to come up with our skit because we had a lot of ideas. Our characters were mostly determined by each of the people who played them and each person got to really embrace who they were in their part.”
After I interviewed some of the class presidents, I interviewed some of the Class Olympic participants! I asked them the questions:
What was your favorite activity?
Any other class you were rooting for besides yours?
On a scale one to ten how much did you have fun?
Freshman Hudson Christine said: “My favorite activity was musical chairs! I was rooting for the Sophomores as well because they had the best decorations and they chanted for the Freshmen. I had tons of fun! A 9.5 right now but next year when I lock in it will be a 10.”
Sophomore Brianna Amey said: “My favorite activity was Tug of War. I was rooting for the Freshmen. 7/10.”
Senior Nikki Kane also responded: “My favorite activity was Tug of War because the class of 2025 has only ever lost at Freshman year homecoming. A lot of my friends are Juniors so I rooted for them, but I think that the Freshmen and Sophomores were so good this year, and all four grades got along really nicely which made it even more fun! I had like an 11/10 time!”
Sophomore David Ullah added: “ [My] favorite activity was tug of war. Definitely. I was rooting for the Senior Class to win, although us Sophomores are better. Scale of 1-10 probably a 4. [They] definitely needed more Sophomore help.”
Reflecting on the event and the interviewees' responses, it’s safe to say that Class Olympics was a wonderful time this year. The room was overflowing with energy. I had a lot of fun taking pictures of awesome moments from each activity; it was truly an amazing experience. I really enjoyed the skit performances– they were my favorite activity. My personal favorites were the Seniors and Juniors performances. They were both well written and performed and I loved the comedic element of the Juniors' performance. Matty Diamond’s performance as Bugs Bunny was amazing and his impression was spot on! I also really adored the storyline for the Seniors’ skit; Nikki Kane and Matthew McCaffrey killed it as love interests! I loved the ‘80s feel, especially the music and accurate outfits.
Everyone should think about attending Class Olympics 2026; it will totally be worth it! I’ll definitely be there!
